NATCHEZ — Memorial services for Phyllis Grant Falkenheiner, 76, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, at Merit Health Natchez, will be noon Saturday at Jefferson Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Barksdale officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Falkenheiner was born July 16, 1942, in Grenada, the daughter of Thomas Philip Grant and Elizabeth Miller Eddleman Grant.
Falkenheiner was a 1960 graduate of Rundle High School in Grenada. She attended Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus. She then transferred to University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) where she graduated in 1964 with a degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career in Natchez where she met the love of her life, Fred Falkenheiner. The next chapter of her life was devoted to raising her three children while teaching at Trinity Episcopal Day School. Much of her retirement years were devoted to caring for her husband during a lengthy battle with cancer. Later in life, Falkenheiner enjoyed travelling with many different groups and friends. She was member of the Pilgrimage Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and Jefferson Street United Methodist Church. Her church family meant a lot to her and she remained active until her recent illness. She was blessed with many wonderful friends that she considered to be a part of her family.
Falkenheiner was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 42 years, Fred Falkenheiner Jr.
Survivors include three children, Philip Falkenheiner and wife, Lori, of Vail, Ariz., Lee Falkenheiner and wife, Lisa, of Natchez, and Ellyn Hairston and husband, Kemp, of Vidalia; five grandchildren, Madalyn, Grant, and Sarah Saxon Falkenheiner and Dow and Jake Hairston; one sister, Martha Burnett and husband, Joe, of Oxford; three nieces, Elizabeth Burnett and Ed Pyle, Margaret Wolfkill and husband, Jason, and Kathryn Elliot and husband, Allen; one nephew, J. Burnett and wife, Joanna; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jefferson Street United Methodist Church Building Fund and to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
