DENHAM SPRINGS, La. — Both Cathedral High School and Adams County Christian School had to win their respective games Monday morning at Live Oak Ball Park to not only stay alive in the MAIS Class AAA South State Tournament (hosted by Central Private School), but also to advance to the State Tournament.
They both did that. Cathedral took care of District 3 No. 2 seed Porter’s Chapel Academy 8-0 while ACCS upset District 3 No. 1 seed Hillcrest Christian School, eliminating both the Lady Eagles and the Lady Cougars from this double-elimination tournament.
Both teams will play at the Class AAA State Tournament, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 29 and Monday, Oct. 1 at the Magee Sportsplex in Magee. ACCS will be Cathedral will be the South No. 2 seed.
Then the Lady Green Wave and the Lady Rebels, the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds out of a very competitive District 5-AAA, had to face each other in a losers’ bracket elimination game. That turned out to be anything but a competitive match-up as Cathedral defeated ACCS 10-0 to advance to face the District 5 champion Silliman Institute Lady Wildcats in the losers’ bracket final.
Cathedral then defeated Silliman 6-5 and finally lost to Bowling Green 10-1.
On Saturday, Cathedral went 3-1 in the tournament. The Lady Green Wave defeated the Riverfield Academy Lady Raiders 7-3. Baylee Graning went 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored while Fisher Iseminger had a base hit, two RBIs and one run scored. Winning pitcher Addison Jackson allowed three earned runs (none earned) on just five hits and one walk. She helped her own cause by going 2-for-3 at the plate. Cathedral won that game despite committing four errors.
The Lady Green Wave then lost to Bowling Green 5-2 in the winners’ bracket quarterfinals. That dropped Cathedral to the losers’ bracket, where they first eliminated the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars 16-2 and then Riverfield 17-0.
ACCS went 2-1 in tournament action on Saturday. The Lady Rebels lost their first game of the tournament to Porter’s Chapel 4-0. They had just one hit in that game – a single by Marlee Magee.
The Lady Rebels’ offense then woke up after falling to the losers’ bracket. They eliminated the District 3 No. 4 seed Park Place Christian Academy Lady Crusaders with an 8-2 victory. ACCS led just 3-2 after three innings before pulling away with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
