CLINTON, La. — The Silliman Institute Wildcats used the ground game to punish Cathedral High School’s defense in a 48-20 win over the Green Wave Friday night that gave them the outright MAIS District 5-AAA championship.

Leading the way for Silliman’s rushing attack was senior Ben Lejeune, who had 15 carries for 210 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.

As a team, the Wildcats (7-3, 3-0) had 343 total rushing yards and five touchdowns. Darius Colenberg had one just carry, but he made it count as it went for 74 yards and a touchdown.

Cathedral quarterback J.t. Taylor was just 7-for-20 passing for 76 yards and two interceptions. He had one rushing touchdown, but was limited to two yards on 10 carries.

Ben Foster also had a rushing touchdown, but he was also held in check by Silliman’s defense to  19 yards on six carries. Tyriek Lee had 22 carries for 135 yards, yet somehow was kept out of the end zone.

Lance Gaude led the Green Wave’s defense with five tackles while Lee, Taylor, Bryson Moore, and Jones Richardson each had a solo sack.

Cathedral (4-5, 1-2) will be the No. 11 seed for the MAIS Class AAA State Playoffs and will be at No. 6 seed Starkville Academy in a first-round game Friday at 7 p.m.

Centreville Academy 36, Clinton Christian Academy 16

CENTREVILLE — An up-and-down 2018 regular season for Centreville Academy finished on a positive note as they took care of the Clinton Christian Academy Warriors 36-16 Friday night in an MAIS District 4-AA game.

Centreville led just 6-0 at the end of the first quarter before going on a tear in the second quarter, scoring 22 points to take a 28-0 lead into halftime. Clinton Christian Academy (7-3, 1-2) tried to get back in the game with a touchdown and two-point conversion with 7:46 left in the third quarter that made it 28-8.

But the Tigers responded with a touchdown and two-point conversion of their own to go up 36-8 with 8:05 remaining in the game. The Warriors scored again about a minute and a half later, but it was far too little, far too late.

With the win, Centreville (5-5, 2-1) finished second behind Brookhaven Academy in District 4-AA and will be the No. 7 seed for the MAIS Class AA State Playoffs. The Tigers will play host to No. 10 seed Carroll Academy Friday at 7 p.m.

Tallulah Academy 52, WCCA 26

TALLULAH, La. — In one of the most bizarre for a football game to end before it ends, the Tallulah Academy Trojans remained undefeated with a 52-26 win over the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams Friday night. But the final score wasn’t the main story. The game was stopped shortly after R.J. Fisher threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to D’mario Weathersby with 6:04 remaining in the third quarter because WCCA was down to just nine players due to injuries.

Tallulah Academy (10-0) scored 38 points in the first quarter alone and went into halftime with a 52-20 halftime lead.

Weathersby completed six of 16 passes for 183 yards with three touchdown passes and two interceptions. He was also the Rams’ leading rusher with 22 yards on six carries to go with five tackles and an interception on a two-point conversion attempt on defense.

Fisher has three catches for 59 yards with one receiving touchdown to go with his passing TD. Will Olive had one reception for 74 yards and a touchdown. Roderick Barnes had one catch for 50 yards and a score.

WCCA (5-4) was scheduled to host Rebul Academy in its home and MAIS 8-Man Division III finale. However, the Raiders canceled that game (among others), giving the Rams a forfeit win that will put them at 6-4 overall and 3-1 in division play. Their next opponent is yet to be determined.
