FERRIDAY — A Clayton man was arrested Thursday for the attempted first-degree murder of his 10-month-old child, who later died at a Baton Rouge hospital. Additional charges are pending, law enforcement investigators said.
Trashone D. Mayes, 24, of Clayton was arrested and taken to the Concordia Parish Jail, where he was being held without bond as of Saturday afternoon after family members took his baby to Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday Thursday afternoon, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief David Hedrick said.
The child was later airlifted to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge for further treatment, where the child died.
Hedrick said the case is still under investigation and details regarding the cause of death have not been released.
Hedrick said first-degree murder charges would be presented to a judge Monday morning.
“This is a tragic incident,” Hedrick said. “Please keep the child’s family and loved ones in your prayers.”
