NATCHEZ — A Natchez teen was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday for his involvement in an attempted murder, with proceedings for a separate murder case still pending, officials said.
Montreal Brown, 17, of 310-B Dumas Drive, was one of three juveniles charged in a Nov. 5, 2016, shooting that injured another teen.
Other suspects charged in the case are charged Harry Smith, 19, and Xavier Jenkins, 17.
The victim, who was 17 years old at the time, was reportedly shot at least twice while he was in the area of Edgin Street. After being shot, the victim drove his vehicle to the Zipy gas station on Old Washington Road and ran into a gas pump.
Brown pleaded guilty Monday to accessory to attempted murder and was sentenced to 20 years with credit for time served with Sixth District Circuit Court Judge Forrest “Al” Johnson presiding.
Officials said Brown also faces charges in a July drive-by shooting that killed Shakerria King, 17, and injured another person.
At the time of the incident, officials said King was pregnant but results of an autopsy later showed she was not pregnant, Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said.
In that case, Brown, Curtavius Dantrell Knight, 19, Carianta D. Allen, 17, and Nicholas J. McGrew, 21, all of Natchez, are each charged with aggravated assault, drive-by shooting and murder.
