FERRIDAY — Services for Luke “Sonny” Heard Jr., 78, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, at his daughter’s residence in Vidalia, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Kingdom Living Ministries in Ferriday with the Rev. Charles Minor officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ferriday Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at funeral home.
Mr. Heard was born May 26, 1940, in Ferriday, the son of Luke Heard Sr. and Hazel Childs Heard.
He was a retired plumber. He was also a Baptist.
Heard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beatrice “Bea” Brown Heard; his parents; and a number of siblings.
Survivors include three sons, Herman Dorsey Jr. and wife, Angela, of New Orleans, Doyle Brown and wife, Renee, of Greensburg, La., and Otis Brown and wife, Monique, of Anaheim, Calif.; three daughters, Debra Spurs and husband, Elbert, Angela Smith and husband, Nathaniel, all of Ferriday, and Antionette B. Tennessee and husband, Marvin, of Vidalia; one brother, Bennie Heard of Laplace, La.; two sisters, Mattie Evans and Maxine Mahaffy, both of Kenner, La.; 30 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and his best friend, Henry “June” Lewis Jr. and wife, Annie Mae, of Ferriday.
