NATCHEZ — An Adams County woman is recovering from wounds sustained after she was attacked by two pit bulls Friday night, Adams County Sheriff’s Office officials said.

Lindsay Barber, 26, had gone to visit friends at approximately 9:44 p.m. Friday at the Plantation Trailer Park at U.S. 61 south and Kingston Road, said Lt. Cal Green of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

“She went to a friend’s house to take her some money,” Green said, “and for some unknown reason the dogs charged her.”

Green said the dogs chased Barber out of the house and into the yard, where a friend at the scene was able to fend the dogs off of Barber, Green said, but not before Barber suffered damage to her face and torso.

“She (Barber) was taken to Jackson for more extensive treatment,” Green said.

The dogs, Green said, are a gray male pit bull and a black and white female pit bull. The owners told investigators the dogs had never attacked anyone in the past, Green said.

The dogs are being held in kennels that were recently constructed by the Adams County Sheriff’s office with money donated to the office after a dog-fighting ring was busted in Adams County in 2017, said Travis Patten, Adams County sheriff.

The case, Green said, has been turned over to the Adams County District Attorney’s office to determine if charges would be filed and to determine whether the dogs should be euthanized.

“Generally, once a dog attacks a human being there is some trepidation as to whether the animal is still safe,” Green said.
