NATCHEZ — Natchez police are working with federal agencies to locate a suspect in a Jan. 23 shooting that killed an artist on North Rankin Street.

“We are working with outside federal agents,” said Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong. “I just got out of meeting with Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies. We still have not located him.”

Investigators said James Henry Williams, 54, was killed after Williams’ brother and Arthur Lee Moore, 43, of last known address 144 N. Shields Lane No. A8, were arguing. Investigators said Moore pulled out a gun and Williams was shot and killed.

Williams was a well-known primitive folk artist and an active member of Arts Natchez.

Armstrong said Moore has been entered into the FBI’s National Crime Information Center database and if he pops up in any activity, he will be identified.

“We do know he will eventually be caught,” Armstrong said. “He very well could be here. We have run down every lead we have been given.”

Armstrong said anyone caught harboring Moore would be prosecuted.

Armstrong asked that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000 or the Natchez Police Department at 601-445-5565.
