OLLA, La. — ShirCold Bowman led Block High School with 16 points as the Block High School Lady Bears overcame a sloppy first quarter to defeat the LaSalle High School Lady Tigers in their LHSAA District 3-1A and regular-season finale Thursday night.
Bowman was one of three players for Block to score in double figures. Alliyah Ceasor added 11 points and Laterria Lee chipped with 10 points. But the way the first quarter went down, it looked like it was going to be a struggle for any player on either team to get 10 or more points.
Both teams had their share of difficulties with turnovers and getting any shots to fall, much less getting open looks at the basket. By the time the first quarter was finally over, the Lady Bears led the Lady Tigers 4-2. The second quarter was just the opposite – more so for Block than it was for LaSalle. The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Tigers 21-8 for a 25-10 lead at the intermission.
LaSalle (13-14, 3-9) managed to cut three points off Block’s halftime lead by the end of the third quarter, but the Lady Bears answered with a 14-13 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Block (22-7, 8-4) will find out next Monday where it will be seeded and who its will be facing in the first round of the LHSAA Class 1A Playoffs.
