TERRY (AP) — A central Mississippi man faces animal cruelty charges after police say he shot an eight-month-old puppy.
WLBT-TV reports 67-year-old Larry Allred was charged after shooting the dog on Wednesday in Terry.
Hinds County sheriff’s deputies say the dog crossed the street onto Allred’s property. A sheriff’s report says Allred called the dog’s owners to come get it, but shot it before they retrieved it.
Kaylee Wilkerson says she was close to retrieving the shepherd mix when Allred shot it in the head. The 12-year-old says she saw the last breaths of the dog, named Bae Bae.
The dog was given to 15-year-old Lexi Wilkerson for her birthday last year. Lexi Wilkerson says when she arrived, she thought the dog was still alive because its tail was still moving.
