Rains force area games to be canceled

NATCHEZ — This is getting to be a way-too-common theme for local and area high school baseball and softball games over the last two weeks – too much rain forcing cancellations.

Yes, more thunderstorms that produced heavy rain late Thursday afternoon into the wee hours of Friday morning came rumbling through the Miss-Lou region and forced several games that were scheduled not only for Thursday, but Friday as well, to end up being more victims of the inclement weather and unplayable field conditions.

Natchez High School’s junior varsity and varsity softball games at Enterprise Attendance Center in Brookhaven were rained out as were Franklin County High School’s JV and varsity home games against Bogue Chitto High School.

Not only were Adams County Christian School’s junior varsity and varsity home games against Centreville Academy that were scheduled for Thursday afternoon rained out, so were the Rebels’ home games on Friday afternoon against Bowling Green School.

ACCS head coach Matthew Freeman then said no decision has been made yet on its varsity game at Monterey High School on Saturday that was scheduled to start at 11 a.m., but he added that it will probably be cancelled as well.

Cathedral High School’s JV and varsity home games at Chester Willis Field against Franklin County High School were cancelled. Green Wave head coach Craig Beesley said no make-up date has been announced.

Speaking of Monterey baseball, the Wolves were scheduled to host MHSAA Class 5A Natchez High School Friday afternoon for a JV and varsity tilt, but those games have been cancelled.

The Lady Wolves’ varsity and junior varsity softball games at rival Harrisonburg High School were rained out. No make-up date has been announced.

Delta Charter School’s varsity softball team was supposed to take on Quitman High School Friday afternoon at the Grant High School Tournament at Johnny Downs Complex in Alexandria, La., but that game was cancelled. Lady Storm head coach Jeannie Beach said that all of Friday’s tournament games were rained out.

Delta Charter will have two games today at the Grant Tournament — 11 a.m. against Jena High School and 3 p.m. against LaSalle High School.

Block High School’s varsity home game against Epps High School was cancelled.

Surprisingly, there was one set of games on Friday that was not cancelled or even postponed because of the rough weather — Central Private School at Centreville Academy.
