ACCS wins game 1; Cathedral wins game 2

NATCHEZ — The Cathedral Green Wave hosted The Adams County Christian School Rebels in a doubleheader Thursday at Chester Willis Field.

ACCS won the first game 5-1.

Andrew Merriett a senior pitcher for the Rebels started the first game. He went all seven innings to throw a complete game. He gave up six hits and only one earned run to go with four strikeouts.

In the bottom of the first inning Cathedral looked like they picked up where they left off from Wednesday night’s game with the Rebels, in which won 7-4.

Ben White had a single to right field, the next batter up was Landon Lees who singled to center to drive in Ben Foster. Merriett pitched himself out of the inning with only one run of damage and the Green Wave could not get any more runs home in the game.

For the Rebels Rhet McDonald had two singles. For the Green Wave Trey Gill had a double and Hollis Lees had a double.

Merriett gets the win and Landon Lees gets the loss.

Game two

Cathedral won game two 11-8. The Green Wave scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull ahead and was able to close the game out in the top of the seventh inning.

Sam Mosby started the game on the mound for Cathedral and pitched three innings. He left the game striking out five. Ben Foster came in to relieve Mosby in the fourth inning.

Foster allowed only three hits, gave up two earned runs with two strikeouts as he went the rest of the game for Cathedral.

This game was tied up 2-2 after two innings of play and was tied up 4-4 after three innings of play. The game was still tied 5-5 after four innings and tied  5-5 after five full innings.

Cathedral broke the game open in the sixth inning by scoring six runs and held ACCS to just one run in their last at bat.

Cody Brown came into the game in relief and Matt Petty got work also on the mound.

Conner Aplin had two singles for ACCS.

Batting for Cathedral: Hollis Lees had two doubles, Trey Gill had a double, Noah Russ had two singles and Conner Murray had two singles.

The winning pitcher was Ben Foster for Cathedral while a tough loss goes to Cody Brown.
