First round of MHSAA 5A South State starts today

NATCHEZ — While some local high school baseball teams are wrapping up their regular seasons and waiting to see where they will be seeded, others will be starting their postseason today.
The first round of the MHSAA Class 5A South State baseball and softball playoffs get underway this afternoon. The Natchez High School Lady Bulldogs, the Region 6-5A No. 2 seed, will travel to Wiggins to take on Region 8-5A No. 3 seed Stone County High School for Game 1 of the best-of-three first-round series at 12 p.m.
Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 between the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Tomcats will take place at the Natchez-Adams Girls Softball Complex behind Natchez High School on Saturday, with Game 2 starting at 12 p.m.
The Region 6-5A No. 2 seed Natchez High School Bulldogs will play host to Region 8-5A No. 3 seed Stone County High School in the first round of the Class 5A South State Playoffs for Senior Night at Chester Willis Field at 6 p.m.
Game 2 will take place at Stone County in Wiggins on Saturday at 1 p.m. If there is a Game 3, the Tomcats and the Bulldogs will play at Chester Willis Field at 6 p.m. Monday.
The No. 12 seed and 6-14 Block High School Lady Bears will play host to the No. 4 seed Logansport High School Lady Tigers today at 4 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the LHSAA Class 1A Playoffs.
Vidalia High School will be playing three games over the final two days of the regular season — all of them LHSAA District 2-2A contests. The Vikings play at Mangham High School today at 2 p.m. and then they will host Beekman Charter School for a varsity doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
Monterey High School plays at Oak Hill High School in a make-up game today at 2 p.m.
