NATCHEZ —Natchez officials confirmed Thursday that the city’s personnel director was released from her duties earlier this week for unstated reasons.

The personnel director, Carla Williams had worked for the City of Natchez for a little more than a year, said Natchez Mayor Darryl Grennell, adding her department is under the purview of the City Clerk, Charles Crump who declined to comment on why Williams had been released.

“That is a personnel issue,” Crump said. “I cannot comment on personnel matters.”

Crump said the personnel director oversees recruitment, orientation, payroll, compensation and benefits planning and other issues directly related to the city’s employees.

Crump said he currently has no plan in place for replacing Williams but said he would first seek the Board of Aldermen’s approval to advertise the job opening.

Williams could not be reached for comment.
