NATCHEZ — Eddie Jones recently announced his candidacy for Adams County Northern District Judge.
“Over the years I have learned that you cannot make progress dividing people, evoking fear or setting people against each other,” Jones said in making the announcement. “I learned that the only way to overcome the tough challenges is by extending trust, cooperation, communication and above all, fairness as well as finding a common ground and working together.”
After graduating from Meadville High School, Jones enlisted in the United States Army.
“I am a Vietnam veteran, purple heart and bronze star recipient,” Jones said. “After my tour in Vietnam, I relocated to Natchez and began a career with the Natchez Police Department in 1968. While working with the Natchez Police Department I was also working toward an advanced degree and earned my bachelor of science degree from Alcorn State University.”
Jones worked for 24 years in the Natchez Police Department, retiring as the city’s chief of police.
“I then went on to work for the Natchez-Adams School District as a physical education teacher,” Jones said. “I have been married to my loving wife Willie Mae for 51 years, have two children, Antoinette Gamble and Adrian Jones and am a grandfather to five. My hobbies include hunting, fishing and watching TV.”
Jones said if he is elected he would promise:
To be trustworthy: “Trust is something earned not given and actions speak louder than words,” Jones said. “You must stick by what you say.”
To be cooperative: “I will cooperate with all citizens and law enforcement agencies in whatever capacity needed or asked of me,” Jones said.
To be fair: “Even though each case is different,” Jones said, “ I promise to handle each one on its own merits. ‘One shoe does not fit all.’”
Jones asked residents to consider his career and reputation when going to the ballots.
“I have a lifetime career and reputation of trust, cooperation and being fair to all people,” Jones said. “I humbly ask for your votes and ask that you elect me as your Northern District Judge.”
