NATCHEZ — The Natchez Adams School District will host a public hearing at 3 p.m. today in the Braden Administration Building on the district’s proposed budget as well as the requested ad valorem tax effort from city and county taxpayers for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.
Ad valorem taxes are collected from home and business taxes, automobile tags and property each year and a portion is dispersed to the school district to fund day-to-day operations, said district business manager Monica Anderson.
Each year, the school district may agree to increase the ad valorem tax effort by up to 4 percent from the amount the district anticipates they will have received by the end of the 2018-2019 fiscal year in September, Anderson said, which is the maximum increase allowed by state law.
