NATCHEZ — Of the six candidates vying for the Adams County Circuit Clerk’s position being vacated this year by Eddie Walker, Daye Dearing has raised the most in campaign contributions, according to campaign finance reports filed in the Circuit Clerk’s office July 10.

Voters will go to the polls on Aug. 6 to cast ballots in party primaries and the Circuit Clerk’s race will be narrowed to two because four of the six candidates are running as Democrats: Daye Dearing, Eva Givens, Jennifer “Lady J” Minor Johnson and Jason Wisner.

The winner of the Democratic primary will face independent candidates Charles L. “Charlie” Vess and Ricky Warren in the Nov. 5 general election.

Dearing reported $7,815 year to date in campaign contributions, including $1,490 in non-itemized donations and $7,461.53 in expenditures year-to-date, including $2,172.27 in itemized expenditures and $923.86 in non-itemized expenditures for a total expenditure of $3,096.13, for the finance-reporting period between June 1 and June 30. Dearing reported a cash balance of $353.47.

Dearing’s closest opponent in campaign contributions in the circuit clerk’s race is Vess, who reported $1,500 year-to-date in contributions and an expenditure of $319.04 to Rhino Graphics for the finance reporting period from June 1 through June 30.

That is just one highlight of campaign finance reports that were filed in the Circuit Clerk’s office on July 10 for the second mandatory candidate finance reporting period June 1 through June 30 in compliance with Mississippi’s campaign finance laws.

Contributions must be itemized if they exceed $200 from a particular person, business or entity, the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office said in its “Campaign Finance Guide.”

A disbursement must be included within the itemized total of disbursements “if the year-to-date aggregate total of the disbursement(s) made to a particular person, business, or entity exceeds $200.

“A disbursement separately itemized on the ‘Itemized Disbursements’ must be identified by the recipient’s name and address, the date(s) and amount(s) for the reporting period and aggregate year-to-date total, and purpose of the disbursement.”
