VIDALIA — Organizers will hold a fishing rodeo at area lakes on Saturday, but this is no regular fishing rodeo.

Members of area bass fishing clubs and even some professional anglers will be scouring the lakes to fish for trash.

The Trash Fishing Rodeo is part of Saturday’s National Day of Conservation, and people who want to join in can help clean up area lakes and have a chance to win prizes.

Also in attendance will be Mossy Oak television celebrity Cuz Strickland.

The Trash Fishing Rodeo starts at 7 a.m. and will end with a weigh in at the Vidalia Convention Center beginning at noon.

The event will have no entry fee for participation. Teams of four will, however, need to signup at the boat ramps at Lake St. John, Lake Concordia and Black River Complex beginning at 7 a.m. and the event will be broadcast live via Mid-South Broadcasting and “Redneck Adventures” TV Show.

Jimmy Allgood, host of “Redneck Adventures” TV show, said the Trash Fishing Rodeo coexists with the National Day of Conservation.

“Rather than just having a fishing tournament or an outdoor type event,” Allgood said. “We all felt this was a much needed day of conservation for our area lakes.”

The founders of the Trash Fishing Rodeo are Paul Ferrell of Mossy Oak Properties of Louisiana, Vidalia Mayor Buz Craft and “Redneck Adventures” host Allgood.

The Trash Fishing Rodeo was recognized by Mossy Oak National as one of the “most unique and creative concepts of Mossy Oak Properties National Day of Conservation.”

There will be prizes will be from Bass Pro Shop and other area partners. The team who finishes first, second and third place with the most trash collected will receive outdoor related products.

The top three teams are going to be weighed in like a major league fishing weigh in. Prizes for other participants are rod and reel combinations, gift cards and other various prizes.

“We would like to tip our hat to Mayor Buz Craft for crafting this awesome idea,” Allgood said. “We would like to thank all who are working towards making this a great annual event for our area lakes.”

The event starts at 7 a.m. Saturday at Lake St. John, Lake Concordia and Black River Complex.
