Givens elected circuit clerk; Wilson unseats incumbent in supervisors race

NATCHEZ — Adams County voters elected Eva Givens to be Circuit Clerk during Tuesday’s general election.

According to preliminary results, more than 64.4% of voters supported Givens with a total of 6,103 votes while her opponent Charlie Vess had 35.6% or 3,379 votes.

Other winners in Tuesday’s election include Larry Hughes for Tax Assessor with 5,200 votes over Douglas Atkins with 4,282 votes; Rose Patterson for Tax Collector with 5,599 votes over Jim Smith with 3,804 votes.

In the Adams County Supervisors races, Kevin Wilson won District 2 Supervisor with 1,067 votes over the incumbent District 2 Supervisor David Carter with 954 votes.

Incumbent District 3 Supervisor Angela Hutchins will reclaim her seat with 1,197 votes over challengers Brandon McCranie with 284 votes and Wilbert Whittley with 89 votes.

Incumbent District 4 Supervisor Ricky Gray will also reclaim his seat with 1,427 votes over his challenger Jacquetta McCranie with 212 votes.

Warren Gaines Sr. won the District 5 Supervisor seat with 1,408 votes over Cleotha Marsaw with 151 votes and Lee Blanton with 657 votes.

Eileen Maher appears to be the winner of the Justice Court Judge Southern District 2 seat with 2,741 votes in a close race against Danny Barber with 2,383 votes.

Election Commissioner Larry Gardner said approximately 850 absentee votes and an indefinite number of affidavit ballots would need to be counted and approved before results are finalized.
