FERRIDAY — Ferriday High School senior quarterback Kobe Dillon threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more as the No. 1 seed Trojans took care of the No. 32 seed Vinton High School Lions 58-0 Friday night at Melz Field in the first round of the LHSAA Class 2A Playoffs.

Dillon scored first on a 44-yard run and Kobe Johnson’s two-point conversion run gave Ferriday an 8-0 lead with about 9:00 to go in the first quarter. About three minutes later, Dillon connected with Elijah White on a 40-yard touchdown pass for a 14-0 Trojans lead after a failed two-point conversion run.

Head coach Stanley Smith said Dillon was one of the players on offense that stood out for the Trojans. Another was Byron Milligan, who scored on a 50-yard run on 2nd and 25 from midfield late in the first quarter. That put Ferriday ahead 28-0.

Another player who stood out was senior defensive back Sebastian Turner, who had two first-quarter interceptions, both of which led to touchdowns. After Turner’s first pick, Justin Burns scored on a 20-yard run just two plays later to give Ferriday a 22-0 lead. His second pick led to Milligan’s score.

Smith said he was thrilled that his team got off to such a fast start.

“They came out motivated tonight,” Smith said. “We came out fast for the first time in a while.”

Besides Turner, others who Smith said stood out defensively were Tevyn Byrd, Kylyn Lewis, and Jabarius Jefferson.

“Anytime you get a shutout and put up 50 points, it’s a good night,” Smith said.

After that big first quarter, the Trojans weren’t done putting up points. Dillon’s 45-yard pass to Burns set up Jaquarius Davis’ 27-yard touchdown run on the very next play with nearly 10:00 left in the second quarter. Near the end of the first half, Johnson scored on a short run and a successful two-point conversion pass gave them a 42-0 halftime lead.

Dillon then scored on a 60-yard touchdown run less than a minute into the third quarter and Davis’ two-point conversion run made it a 50-0 game. Blake Tarver scored on an 11-yard run early in the fourth quarter and a successful two-point conversion run put Ferriday up 58-0.

“It was a good win for us. We played a complete game on both offense and defense,” Smith said.

Ferriday (10-1) will play host to No. 16 Port Allen High School in a second-round game Friday at 7 p.m. Port Allen defeated No. 17 seed Rayville High School 29-6 to advance.
