Woodville shooting injures at least three people

WOODVILLE — Woodville police and Wilkinson County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a night of shootings that began Sunday night in a rural area of Wilkinson County and moved into Woodville where shootings occurred at a house, a passing car and a neighborhood.

In all more than 100 rounds were fired and at least three people were injured in the shootings that began a little after 7 p.m. Sunday and lasted until past 8 p.m

The shootings apparently began at a place called “The Store,” which is a beer joint across the street from the Wilkinson Public School Complex on Pinckneyville Road in the county.

Three people were transported with injuries to Field Health System in Centreville.

“It is an ongoing investigation,” said Jessie Stewart Woodville police chief. “I really don’t want too much information to hit the streets right now. Altogether, it was more than 100 rounds. All of that shooting didn’t take place in the city.”

Wilkinson County Sheriff Reginald Jackson did not respond to messages left seeking comment for this story.
