WOODVILLE — An 11-year-old girl was killed in one of two shootings early Thursday morning in Wilkinson County, according to the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office.
The Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately 3:30 a.m. Thursday about a shooting at 1119 Ford Creek Road, a press release states.
“Several shots were fired into a mobile home and a vehicle parked at the location,” the press release states. “During the firing of shots, an 11-year-old girl was wounded and transported in a private vehicle to Field Health System Hospital in Centreville where she was later transferred to University Medical Center in Jackson. The 11-year-old child later died from her injuries.”
Within minutes of the initial shooting call, at approximately 03:51 a.m. Thursday, the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office received a second 911 call of a shooting into another residence at 126 Martin Luther King Drive with bullets striking the homeowner in the leg, the press release states.
“AMR Ambulance Service and Air Vac was dispatched and the subject was transported to Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and underwent surgery for injuries,” the press release states. “The investigation is ongoing with four suspects being arrested but not yet formally charged. The sheriff’s office received several anonymous tips of the description of the vehicle that was possibly used in the shooting. They were captured on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge. They are being held at the Wilkinson County Jail. There are other possible suspects to be arrested involving this tragic incident.”
