NATCHEZ — Graveside Services for Mrs. Betty Dixon, 93, of Natchez, MS who died on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at her residence will be held on Friday, July 3, 2020, at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel & Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernest Ford, Sr. officiating.

On June 28, 2020, at 10:28 p.m., Our Heavenly Father dispatched one of His Angels to Earth to move His daughter Betty Jane Reynolds Dixon from her temporary home to her everlasting home in Eternity, to forever be in His presence.

Betty Jane was born on the twenty-third of Dec. in 1926 and was an early Christmas gift to her parents, Major Reynolds, Sr. and Harrier Tucker Reynolds.  She was the seventh of nine children, with five brothers and three sisters.  Betty grew up attending school in Kingston, later graduating from Brumfield High School and attending Natchez Junior College.

Betty accepted Jesus as her Savior as a child and was a lifelong member of Egypt Baptist Church.  She loved her Pastor and members and was loved and respected in return.  During her later years, until her health began to fail, Betty rode weekly “down-home” to service with her cousin Irma Jean Davis.

Betty would meet, fall in love with, and marry Andrew Dixon, Sr., and to their union, five children would be born.  Her greatest joy was in caring for her husband and children. She had more than enough love to pour on her large family of siblings, nieces and nephews, and cousins.  Her bonus family of sons and daughters and friends and neighbors were all recipients of her time and attention.

Bay, Mama, Granny, GG, Sis, and Auntie were all names that Betty answered to with a smile, a kind word, or a kiss.  As her health failed, she relocated to her daughter Rita’s home, and received care mixed with smiles, kind words, and kisses from her daughters, her granddaughter Erienne Smith, and her caregivers Belinda Thomas, Linda Montgomery, Karen Vanderson, her cousin Cora, and LaDonna Northington.

Betty Jane was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Dixon Sr., her son Stephen, her great granddaughter Nadia Smith, her parents Major and Harriet Reynolds, her sisters Mary Lou Ivory, Dorothy Louise Brown, and Stella Marie Miller, and her brothers Major Jr., Elijah, Elzie, James, and Willie Reynolds. Still celebrating her life’s journey and the legacy of love she poured into each of them are her children Gregory (Paulette) Dixon, Andrea (Daryl) Dixon, Rita (Abraham) Washington, and Derrick (Lucille) Dixon. Missing their Granny are her twenty grandchildren, and twenty- nine great grandchildren, her godson Darius Edwards, and her longtime neighbor and friend Florence Ragland.  Loving her still are her numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who became family because Betty Jane loved them as family.
