Voters in Concordia Parish will go to the polls Saturday to cast ballots in the presidential preference primary and municipal primary election.

Early voting ended at the end of the day Saturday, July 4, with 1,001 early votes cast since early voting began June 20, said Concordia Parish Registrar Golda Ensminger.

In all, with mail-in ballots included, Ensminger said 1,334 votes had been cast as of the end of the day July 4.

Ensminger said she is encouraged by the large number of people who have voted early but would not venture to predict how turn out will go on Saturday.

“I think it will be a fair turnout,” Ensminger said. “I just really couldn’t say. They always surprise me. I say one thing and it turns out … I wouldn’t have thought we would have had very many people come out on the Fourth but we had 90 something, close to 100. I thought everyone would have been busy with family cooking out and stuff like that, but we had quite a few Saturday.”

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and people should bring an ID, Louisiana driver’s license or state identification card.

Mail-in votes through the United States Postal Service or hand delivered must reach the registrars’ office by 4:30 p.m. Friday, Ensminger said.

The municipal general election will be held Aug. 15 and the deadline to register to vote in that election, whether registering in person or by mail is July 15 or July 25 if using the GeauxVote Online Registration System through the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website.
