FERRIDAY, La. — A grand re-opening of the Ferriday library is planned Wednesday, Aug. 28, following newly finished extensive renovation work.
The event is hosted by the Ferriday Rotary and Garden clubs, the Concordia Parish Library board and staff.
“Citizens are invited to see the new beautifully renovated spaces that will serve all of our public,” library officials stated in a news release. “The facility will offer a new lab for the Saturday classes as well as hosting small groups, a new program room to accommodate 80 guests and children’s story time, larger reading areas with new tables and chairs, two small meeting rooms to seat four in each, an updated children’s room and additional storage.”
The public is invited to come on Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to see the completed project with music and flowers.
The Rotary Club began the public library in 1928 and in the early 1950’s the Ferriday Community Service Club donated the town community center to the Police Jury to house the public library. It has remained in the same location since that time with three renovations in the last 70 years.
“Occasionally, citizens ask if people are still reading hardbacks and paperbacks and the answer is, absolutely,” the library states. “Look at Barnes and Noble and watch TV ads for bestsellers coming out. The book market is viable along with digital collections and databases. Libraries are used for meeting areas for groups needing Internet and spaces for discussions. Many government public services are hosted at the library, which makes it available to all. The demands and offerings of the public library have changed and grown so much.
“Please take the time to come by the Ferriday Library on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. Come and enjoy the renovated facility that has been designed to offer you great services.”
