Our opinion: Deserving of praise

We are in that time of the year when summer vacations are almost over — save for some who plan extended weekend trips for the coming Labor Day weekend — and children and parents alike are buckling up and getting back to school and work with a vengeance.

Volunteers are back at work, too, like those who organized the Teen Summit held on Aug 24 in the Natchez Middle School gymnasium.

Approximately 200 youth from Adams County and Concordia Parish learned about careers and professionalism, mental health and suicide prevention, anti-bullying and conflict resolution, vaping and tobacco and social media.

Many thanks to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Zeta Delta Omega Chapter and the Miss-Lou Divine 9 fraternities and sororities for organizing the event for all of our children.

Hearty congratulations to Cathedral and ACCS for their hard-fought wins on Friday night. Natchez High’s football team begins its season on Friday night. Best of luck to all representing Natchez on the gridiron. Stay safe and display the best of sportsmanship.

Hayes Dent of Jackson, who is among the Eola Hotel Development Group, provided an update on the project in Natchez early Monday evening.

Dent did an excellent job of explaining how the project is being funded and the complications of construction projects that are based on public financing.

In the end, Dent reassured his audience by saying the Eola project is “absolutely” going to happen.

Downtown Natchez is counting on it.
