NATCHEZ – Graveside services, open to everyone, for Maralee Ann Whitehead, 78, of Natchez who died of cancer on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at her home will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Brad Watson and Rev. Brien Sturgill officiating.
Burial will immediately follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mrs. Whitehead was born in Salina, KS on Sept. 4, 1946, the daughter of Preston and Marion Simpson.
Maralee went to school and became a cosmetologist. She also worked at Belk and eventually her husband’s company. She was involved with her church and a faithful member of First Baptist Church Vidalia.
Maralee was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Marion Simpson-Small; her brother, Dale Simpson all of Salinia, KS and also, her brother-in-law, Daryl Whitehead.
We would like to say a big thank you to Deaconess Hospice of Brookhaven that cared for her so well including Robin Stamps, Tonya Eason, Grace Brown, Ashley Aisles, Jessie Rippy, Case Lofton, Drew Smith, and Debra Mitchell. Also, a special thank you to You Are My Sunshine Companion Care, Cheyenne Gladden, and Malorie Carlisle.
She loved the Lord and loved spending time with her family. She loved her Sunday School and often baked for them a sweet treat to have on Sunday mornings. She would do anything for anyone, but she loved both of her grandchildren with everything she had.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, J.D. Whitehead of Natchez; son, Doug Whitehead and Pam of Natchez; daughter, Denise Boyd and Daniel of Vidalia; grandsons, Andrew Boyd of Monterey, LA and Hunter Boyd and Taylor of Vidalia; brother-in-law, Charles Whitehead and Ottie of Arp, TX; sister-in-law, Johnnie Whitehead of Five Points, TN; sister-in-law, Darla Simpson of Salinia, KS; nephews, Jamie Simpson and Christinia of Salina, KS, Jarod Simpson and Briana of Salina, KS, Chuck Whitehead and Kelli of Arp, TX; and niece, Chassity Whitehead of Arp, TX.
Pallbearers will be Doug Whitehead, Daniel Boyd, Hunter Boyd, Andrew Boyd, Bubba Wroten, Ben Wroten and Jeff Ames.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
