NATCHEZ — Veteran’s Day activities in Natchez on Monday included a bench dedication and flag ceremony to honor the late veteran Stephen Kearney Nielsen, U.S. Navy and past commander of American Legion No. 4. in Memorial Park followed by a parade down Main Street to the Natchez Bluff.
Veteran Ben Tucker served as the Grand Marshal. The parade on Monday also included the Natchez High School Marching Band and the Air Force Junior ROTC Corps of Cadets.
On the bluff, officials posthumously honored the 2024 Patriot of the Year. G. Mark LaFrancis, U.S. Air Force veteran and founder of the Home With Heroes Foundation, and honored the U.S. Army Air Corps and Air Force veteran John “Captain Jack” Kerwin as the Veteran of the Millennia.
The ceremony concluded with a prayer of benediction and the bugle’s sounding of taps performed by Doug McCallister, remembering those veterans who have died and to honor those still with us.
The video above includes scenes from these activities, as does the photo gallery below.
