CONCORDIA PARISH, La. — A plan to dismiss the ongoing desegregation lawsuit against Concordia Parish School Board involves redrawing school boundary lines, meaning some students would change to a new school.
The school district shared maps of the proposed district lines today that will be discussed at a community forum scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Vidalia Convention Center.

“The Concordia Parish School Board has been in negotiations with the United States in an attempt to move the School Board’s pending desegregation case toward dismissal,” school district officials said. “The desegregation case was originally filed on Nov. 30, 1965. As a result of those negotiations, counsel for the United States and counsel for the School Board have developed this proposal which, if accepted by the School Board and implemented over the next three years, would entitle the School Board to seek dismissal of this longstanding matter.”
Officials added that a U.S. District Court ordered that the school board vote on this proposal before Dec. 31.
However, before voting on the proposal the school board will be host the community forum on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
“The public is invited to come and learn about the plan,” officials said. “School Bboard members want to hear from the public because the proposed consent order would cause changes throughout the school system, including where students attend schools, the board’s hiring procedures, what types of transfers are allowed, and other areas of operation.”
