NATCHEZ — Two Adams County Supervisors are sporting new county-owned vehicles, and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office is waiting for the delivery of nine new vehicles through its lease program with Enterprise.
Deneen Price, Adams County purchasing clerk, presented bids for new vehicles for District 4 Supervisor Ricky Gray and District 5 Supervisor Warren Gaines at the Jan. 23 meeting of the Board of Supervisors.
Gray and Gaines are the only two of the five supervisors to use county vehicles. County Attorney Scott Slover said Mississippi law enables supervisors to use a county vehicle for traveling in their sometimes large and rural districts.
District 1 Supervisor Wes Middleton, District 2 Supervisor and Board President Kevin Wilson and District 3 Supervisor Angela Hutchins have chosen not to seek the use of a county-owned vehicle.
Late last year, Gray complained that his 2017 Ford truck, with approximately 70,000 miles on it, wasn’t working correctly and was unreliable. He requested a new truck.
Gaines was driving a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Classic with 73,905 miles on it. He also requested a new truck.
Supervisors approved the purchase of new 2024 model Dodge Ram trucks for $43,500 each from Kirk Auto Group of Grenada, which was the successful bidder.
Gray and Gaines’ previous county-owned vehicles will be assigned out for other needs in the county, such as transporting the county’s grass-cutting crews, Slover said.
Sheriff Travis Patten said his department was in dire need of patrol vehicles. His department will receive five marked vehicles, Ford 2025 Police Intercepters, for $58,250 each, as well as two unmarked vehicles for $52,270 each, all SUVs.
Through the Enterprise lease program, Enterprise buys the vehicles back when it is time to replace them.
