NATCHEZ – Funeral services for Clara Mae Griffin Harper, 84, of Natchez, who departed this earthly life on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Greater Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Clifton Marvel officiating.

Burial will be held on Monday, Feb. 10, 2024, at Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home and will continue on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Clara was born on March 18, 1940, in Natchez, the daughter of Andrew Griffin and Clara Chaney Smith.  She graduated from high school and retired from Wal-Mart. Mrs. Harper was a member of Greater Macedonia Baptist Church where she served as a choir member. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and family time.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie S. Harper; daughter, Joan Harper McCullough; brothers, Rudolph Smith, Lee Raymond Smith, and Clarence Griffin; sisters, Lisa Rogers, Cleopatra Graves, and Delores Logan.

Clara’s memories will be forever cherished in the lives of her sons, Thomas Woods, and Charlie Woods Harper; daughters, Cleopatra Asberry, Benita Wilson (Paul), and Janice Gibson; thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, five nephews, ten nieces, other relatives and friends.
