NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School’s varsity boys’ soccer team will have one more home game at Bobby Marks Stadium this postseason after the South No. 1 seed Rebels held on for a 2-1 win over the Central No. 1 seed Park Place Christian Academy Crusaders last Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2025 MAIS Division II Boys’ Soccer Playoffs.

ACCS senior Christian Neveykin scored the first goal for the Rebels in the 30th minute of the first half. Just seven minutes later, junior Jamichael Owens put the ball in the back of the next to give them a 2-0 halftime lead.

“We played our game. We controlled the ball. The biggest thing for us was eliminating their attack by eliminating space for their attackers. That allowed us to control the game,” Rebels head coach Cristofer Thompson said.

And while ACCS was unable to take advantage of a few scoring opportunities in the second half, it was up to freshman goalkeeper Bryce LaPrairie to make sure the Rebels’ season would keep going.

Even though LaPrairie did give up one goal to Park Place Christian in the 65th minute of the second half, he made one spectacular save after another to preserve the victory. He finished with five saves.

“Even as a ninth-grade goalie, he had a huge role,” Thompson said. “If Bryce had not made the crucial saves at full extension, the outcome would’ve been different. He’s (played) a vital role to this team. He’s playing his best game right now, just as everyone else is.”

Thompson noted that the Rebels had one goal disallowed in the second half when Owens was called for offsides and that his team had weren’t able to take advantage of a couple of other scoring chances.

“Overall, we’re doing a good job at getting chances and we’re getting better a finishing these,” Thompson said.

With the win, the Rebels improved to 7-10 overall. They will take on a familiar opponent next Monday at 5:30 p.m. when they play host to the Central No. 1 seed East Rankin Academy Patriots in the semifinal. East Rankin shut out South No. 2 seed Oak Forest Academy 1-0 last Thursday afternoon.

“We’ve played them once already this season. We lost that game 3-0. That was quite a few weeks ago. I feel like we’re playing better, but so are they,” Thompson said. “We’re going to give it our best, just as we have all year.”
