NATCHEZ – Funeral services for Florence Curtis Ragland, 91, of Natchez, who departed this earthly life on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, in Lorman will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at 2 p.m. at New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Irvin Dean officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, from 5 until 6 p.m. with a “Crowning” at 5:50 p.m. and an Eastern Star Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Florence was born on July 14, 1933, in Natchez, the daughter of Evelyn Curtis and Burnett Sims. She graduated from high school and retired as a housekeeper. Mrs. Ragland was a member of Bright Star Baptist Church, where she served on the Mother’s Board, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir. She was also the Grand Matron of Emma Morris Chapter #12 Order of the Eastern Stars. Florence enjoyed cooking and fishing.

She is preceded in death by her spouse, Arthur Ragland; her mother; and brother, Lorenzo Jackson.

Florence’s memories will be forever cherished by her daughter, Joyce Ragland Smith (Earl); son, Dennis Curtis; sister, Mary Foster; grandchildren, Cottrell Ragland (Angela), Danyata Smith (Erienne), and Evelyn Smith, Esq; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
