NATCHEZ — Natchez firefighters responded to a fire Thursday morning that appears to have been set intentionally inside Holiday Apartments.

Natchez Fire Chief Robert Arrington said the fire remains under investigation with the Natchez Police Department but has been put out since Thursday afternoon.

“The call came in this morning early around 8 a.m.,” he said. “It was definitely inside the apartment building and it is suspected arson. I don’t know the full extent of the damage yet but we got there and our guys were able to knock it out before it reached the attic.”

Arrington said no injuries to residents or firefighters have been reported.

Natchez Police Chief Cal Green said the lower floor apartment where the fire started was supposed to have been vacant. The occupants of the upper-level apartment were able to get out safely and called 911, she said.

No arrests for the fire had been made as of Thursday afternoon while the investigation is ongoing, she said.
