According to the National Weather Service, a cold weather advisory is in effect now through Thursday afternoon. High temperatures today and tomorrow are in the mid-30s and lows are around 20 degrees with wind chills as low as three degrees.

Very cold conditions and low wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Use caution when traveling outside and wear appropriate clothing, including a hat and gloves. Check on friends and neighbors, especially the elderly or infirm. Keep pets indoors as much as possible and make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.

To prevent fires, do not use generators or grills intended for outdoor use inside. Make sure space heaters are plugged directly into a wall outlet — not into a power strip or extension cord — and that they have space around them away from furniture. Turn heaters off when leaving the room or house and before going to sleep.
