NATCHEZ – Funeral services for Leonia Alberta Brooks Evans, 81, of Natchez, who departed this earthly life on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, in Natchez will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at noon at New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Roderic Lewis, Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home and will continue on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Leonia was born on Dec. 19, 1943, in Crosby, MS, the daughter of Wayner McClain Brooks and Jimmy Brooks. She graduated from Wilkinson County High School and furthered her education at Co-Lin Community (LPN degree) and Alcorn State University (BSRN degree). Leonia was previously employed with Diamond International, Humana Hospital, Tracehaven Nursing Home, and Natchez Regional Hospital. Ms. Evans was a member of New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess and choir member. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and talking on the phone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jimmy Brooks, Jr., and Sammy Brooks, and sister, Sarah Brooks Knight.

Leonia leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Cassandra D. Dennis and Aquetta Dennis Butler (Calvin); brothers, John A. Brooks, Charles E. Brooks, and Jerry Owens; sister, Betty J. Smith; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
