NATCHEZ — The HoofBeats and PawPrints Rescue’s Mardi Paws on Sunday beginning at 1:45 p.m. will be indoors at the River View RV Park Event Center (100 River View Pkwy, Vidalia, LA 71373—the big blue event center at the north end of the RV park).

The change is being made because of the threat of rain in the forecast.

Dress up along with your kids and pets to “strut your stuff” for an afternoon of fun, festivities, and community spirit.

The free event will kick off with a vibrant Mardi Gras-style parade filled with lively music, colorful beads, well-behaved dogs, and their owners dressed in festive costumes. The event will conclude with the crowning of a King and Queen, along with exciting awards for Best Dressed Dog, Best Dressed Dog/Owner Combination, Most Creative Costume, Best Animal Float and several other special awards.  Although cats will remain at home, owners can submit photos of their dressed-up pets to compete.

Grand Marshals Tim Vance and his dog Rosie will lead the parade, along with local dignitaries, including Bill Burnsed, Mayor Dan Gibson, and his wife Marla, who will again serve as judges for the competition.

Beyond the parade, attendees will be able to enjoy a variety of pet-friendly activities. These include:

–Free nail trimming from Pet Sense.

–Discounted pet microchipping by Southside Veterinary Clinic.

–Pet photography by Petersen Photography.

–Refreshments from Della’s Lemonade Stand.

–Delicious dog treats from Girl Scout Troop 3745.

–Silent auction.

Attendees can also view the Pafford EMS medical helicopter, provided it is not required for an emergency assignment.

HPR President Kathy Fitch emphasized the event’s multiple purposes, saying, “Mardi Paws provides an opportunity to celebrate your own beloved pets and raises awareness for pet rescue and adoption.”

According to Fitch, the HPR staff will be walking several wonderful pets who have been overlooked in local shelters, showcasing them to potential adopters in hopes of finding them forever homes.

As a fundraiser for Hoofbeats and Pawprints Rescue, the event also aims to raise $15,000 to support its mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming pets in need. A $10 registration donation is requested from those who wish to compete for prizes, and donors who contribute $25 or more will receive a commemorative hat.  “Join the community for a day of vibrant festivities, heartwarming moments, and a chance to make a difference for animals in need,” Fitch said.
