JONESVILLE – A memorial service for Florence Maudell King Milton, 88, of Jena, LA will be held at Young’s Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesville, LA at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025. A visitation for friends will be held before the service from 1 p.m. until the service begins at 2 p.m.
Florence was born on Friday, June 12, 1936, on her parent’s houseboat. The boat was moored at her grandfather’s property at Patten Bend on the Ouachita River in Catahoula Parish. She died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, in Jonesville, LA attended by her daughter at the Columns Nursing Center. She was a resident of Jena, LA, and a member of Life Church of LaSalle Parish. Florence was a cosmetologist and owner of Florence’s Total Hair Care in Jena for over 40 years. She maintained a loyal and consistent clientele with the residents of LaSalle and Catahoula Parish. Beyond her career, Florence was a woman of many talents and impeccable taste. She was an accomplished seamstress, home designer, cook, vocalist, and pianist. Florence was known for her strong opinions and unwavering commitment to quality in everything she did, always ensuring the best for her family.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Jerome L. King Sr., and Burta Smithson King; maternal grandparents, Thomas Sidney Jeter and Birdie Parker Jeter; parents, Jewel Smithson King Sr. and Alice Lavice Jeter King; and brother, Jewel Smithson King Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard Milton of Olla, LA; two sons, Charles Lamar Posey of Baton Rouge, LA, and Michael Gene Posey of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughter, Jo Alice Posey of Pineville, LA; two granddaughters, Alice Noel Lee of Ruston, LA, and Marla Cherie Posey of Baton Rouge, LA; grandson, Reuben Charles Posey of Austin, TX; two great-grandsons, Chetney and Cayden Baronet of Lake Charles, LA; son-in-law, Michael Spivey; two sisters, Florene King Bonner of Jonesville, LA, and Mary King Poland (Shep) of Terre Haute, IN; two brothers, Gene Austin King (Olga) of Kerrville, TX, and Arthur Ray King (Nancy), of Ferriday, LA; aunt, Faye Dean Peavy of Houston, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
