NATCHEZ — One person was injured during a Sunday afternoon shooting at Holiday Apartments, Natchez Police Chief Cal Green said.

Green said the victim, identified as 51-year-old Charles Jones III, had been shot in the lower abdomen and had been airlifted from Merit Health Natchez to be treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

There is no word yet on the shooter, who remains at large. Police were on the scene at approximately 5:15 p.m.

“This investigation is ongoing,” Green said, adding that investigators are collecting camera footage and interviewing witnesses. Anyone with information should contact Natchez Police Department or Crime Stoppers, 888-442-5001, to remain anonymous.
