NATCHEZ — The Adams County Board of Supervisors voted to approve its annual health and dental insurance policy with Fred Parker of Byrne Insurance Agency of Natchez.
Parker and Byrne Insurance have handled the county’s health insurance for at least the last 15 years, probably longer, Parker said.
Parker said county employees will be covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance, and Humana will provide dental insurance.
Supervisors Angela Hutchins and Ricky Gray were absent from the meeting. However, Angela Hutchins attended via telephone.
Board President and District 2 Supervisor Kevin Wilson moved to approve renewing the county’s health and dental insurance with Parker and the Byrne Agency. District 1 Supervisor Wes Middleton seconded that motion.
“I like that you are a hometown company and we can stop in and see you anytime we need anything, and county employees can, too,” Wilson said.
District 3 Supervisor Angela Hutchins objected to the vote being taken at a meeting when not all supervisors were present. However, Wilson said he would not attend the next county meeting on March 17.
Wilson’s motion passed 3 to 1. Wilson, Middleton, and Gaines approved the insurance package, while Hutchins voted against it.
