FERRIDAY, La. — A Texas man has been arrested by Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies after he reportedly attempted a fraudulent purchase valued over $5,000 at a local business.
Elvis Vizueth, 30, of Athens, is charged with resisting a police officer with force or violence, identity theft, credit card fraud and theft greater than $1000 and misrepresentation during booking.
The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a local business owner on Thursday, Feb. 27, regarding a possible fraudulent credit card transaction of more than $5,000.
The owner of the business became suspicious of the transaction after noticing an address and name in another state that did not match the address on the driver’s license of the customer.
An investigation by CPSO’s CID revealed that a customer placed a call to the business to make a large order and paid with a credit card. The business was also supplied with the customer’s driver’s license that appeared to match the name and address on the credit card. However, when investigators ran the driver’s license number, it came back to another name and address in Bossier Parish.
CPSO Investigators organized an operation and showed up at the business prior to the customer arriving to pick up the merchandise ordered. Vizueth arrived to pick up the merchandise but fled the scene after being confronted by authorities at the business. After a foot chase, he was captured, arrested and booked into the Concordia Parish Correctional Facility.
Vizueth was also non-compliant with Texas Probation and Parole for sexual assault of a juvenile.
Concordia Parish Sheriff David Hedrick commended the business owner in this case for recognizing the red flags and taking action to contact authorities immediately.
Businesses and individuals alike can be taken advantage of financially at any time, He said. If something does not seem right, it is always best to get it checked out before losing money or property.
