NATCHEZ — Whoever was involved in a shooting on Sunday evening that injured one person remains at large as police are still working to get a positive identity on the shooter, Natchez Police Chief Cal Green said Tuesday.

Police responded to a shooting on Sunday at approximately 5:15 p.m. at Holiday Apartments,

Green said the victim, identified as 51-year-old Charles Jones III, had been shot in the lower abdomen and had been airlifted from Merit Health Natchez to be treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

“This investigation is ongoing,” Green said, adding that investigators are collecting camera footage and interviewing witnesses.
