ELLISVILLE — South Jones High School senior Dylan Causey threw a no-hitter, struck out eight batters, and walked only one batter over three innings as the Braves rolled to a 15-0 win over the Natchez High School Bulldogs in three innings last Monday night in the MHSAA Region 3-5A opener for both teams.

The junior varsity and varsity games between Natchez High and South Jones were originally scheduled to take place last Tuesday, but Bulldogs head coach Dan Smith said last Sunday that because of the threat of severe weather as well as strong winds ahead of the incoming inclement weather, the games were moved to Monday.

Regardless of which day the game was going to be played, South Jones was more than ready. After Causey retired the side in the top of the first inning, the Braves gave him plenty of run support with four runs in the bottom of the first.

However, the Braves were not done adding to their lead against Natchez High starting pitcher Jamarius Bell. They plated three runs in the bottom of the second inning to go up 7-0 and ended the game early thanks to an eight-run barrage in the bottom of the third to run-rule the Bulldogs.

Bell struggled on the mound against a good-hitting South Jones team, whether it was giving up extra-base hits or issuing walks. He gave up 15 runs, 10 of them earned, on 10 hits with nine walks, just two strikeouts, and he hit one batter in two and two-thirds innings. The defense behind him committed four errors.

Mylan Dykes went 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs batted in, three runs scored, and was walked once while G. Delutz was 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs, three runs scored, and was also walked once to lead South Jones as the plate.

Greysen Sumrall was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored, and was hit by a pitch. Cayden Kimmon homered and was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.

Beckett Johnson was 1-for-1 with a double, one RBI, two runs scored, and was walked twice while Cambridge McDaniel went 1-for-3 with one run scored and was walked once. Eyan Butler went 1-for-3 with one RBI, one run scored, and was walked once. Causey helped his own cause as he was walked twice and scored one run. Courtesy runner Conner Moore scored one run and had one stolen enough.

Oddly enough, Bell was the only player for the Bulldogs to get on base against Causey as he drew a walk.

Causey, on the other hand, was very efficient on the mound and the defense behind him committed no errors.

With the loss, Natchez High fell to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in region play. The Bulldogs played at Wesson Attendance Center last Thursday with the JV game at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m. Then they play host to South Jones on Friday at Chester Willis Field for a Region 3-5A varsity doubleheader at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
