Carter, Cothern lead ACCS Rebels to stunning win over Silliman

WESSON — Coleman Carter and Sean Kerry Cothern each belted three base hits as the Adams County Christian School Rebels held on for an 8-6 upset victory over the Silliman Institute Wildcats last Wednesday night.
The game was played at Walter R. Sullivan Field on the campus of Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson even after the severe weather that hit most of the state just one day earlier and while dealing with gusty winds for most of the day and even into the early nighttime on Wednesday.
ACCS was the visiting team in this game and right away the Rebels got off to a strong start. Caden Aplin singled to bring in two runs and later an uncharacteristic error by Silliman brought in two more runs, giving the Rebels an early 4-0 lead.
The Rebels extended their lead with two runs in the top of the second inning thanks to RBI singles by Carter and Cothern. Carter ended up going 3-for-3 with one run batted in while Cothern also had one RBI.
Parker Roach was the winning pitcher for the Rebels after going three innings and allowing four runs, two of them earned, on three hits with five strikeouts and just two walks. Jackson Anderson and pitched four solid innings in relief, giving up just two runs, one of them earned, on three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
As a team, ACCS finished with 11 total base hits. Levi Beesley and Ethan Givens each had two hits while Aplin went 1-for-4 with his two RBIs.
Number 19 for Silliman (no name given) was the losing pitcher after allowing six runs, four of them earned, on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks. The Wildcats were led at the plate by No. 6 (no name given), who went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
With the win, the Rebels improved to 5-2 overall. They traveled to Centreville to take on the Centreville Academy Tigers on Friday with the junior varsity game at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
