NATCHEZ — A man lost his life overnight in a house fire in Natchez.

Natchez Fire Chief Robert Arrington said the call came in around midnight of a fire at 75 Marin Ave.

“When the guys arrived, it was fully involved,” Arrington said. “Neighbors told us they thought there was an individual inside. Once we could get inside, we were able to verify that.”

Arrington said his department is working with Natchez Police to verify the identity of the individual.

“We will try to get an investigation done, but it’s going to be difficult with the extent of this fire,” Arrington said.

He said the fire took more than an hour to get under control and firefighters were still putting out “hot spots” on Friday morning.

“This is a tragic loss of life and until we figure out more, we are not going to have too much to say,” he said.
