CENTREVILLE — After a rough first inning, Sean Kerry Cothern settled down and pitched seven solid innings while Coleman Carter had two base hits as the Adams County Christian School Rebels rallied to defeat the Centreville Academy Tigers 7-5 last Friday night.
ACCS scored its first run of the game on an error by Centreville Academy in the top of the first inning. But the Tigers answered with a four-run rally in the bottom of the first thanks to a three-run triple by Garrett Jeansonne and a run-scoring groundout by Caden Bell.
However, the Rebels responded with a three-run rally of their one in the top of the second inning thanks to a pair of singles, the second one by Carter that tied the game at 4-4. Another error by the Tigers, this one in the top of the fourth inning, proved to be costly as that miscue brought in two runs to give ACCS a 6-4 lead.
Cothern helped his own cause by hitting a solo home run to left field in the top of the sixth inning that gave the Rebels a 7-4 lead. Centreville scored one run late in the game, but it was not enough.
Cothern gave up five runs, only one of them earned, on nine hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks to earn the win on the mound for ACCS. John Austin Sterling was charged with the loss after allowing six runs, three of them earned, on five hits with six strikeouts and six walks over four innings.
Ethan Givens led the Rebels at the plate by going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Jeansonne led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-4 with his three RBIs, while Landon Bigner also had two base hits.
With the win, the Rebels improved to 6-2 overall. They play host to Centreville Academy on Tuesday for a varsity doubleheader at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
