NATCHEZ — Downtown Natchez is losing its most enchanting retail gift shop.
This weekend, Olivia Pate announced on social media that she is moving herself and her store, Olivina, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
“After almost five years, the beloved and whimsical shop is not only moving out of its origin in downtown Natchez, but is moving out of Mississippi and flying down south (via hot air balloon) to Baton Rouge,” Pate wrote. “The decision did not come lightly for Lady Olivina.
“I have poured my heart and soul into building something meaningfully unique here, but despite my best efforts, I find myself struggling — fiscally, emotionally, and mentally,” she wrote. “The reality is that in order to grow and have a chance at true success, I must move forward in a new environment that offers the opportunities I need to thrive.”
Pate thanked Natchez for “providing a place where I was able to not only build the foundation of Olivina but, most importantly, pursue my soul’s truest purpose — creatifying all the things of my imagination. This move is bittersweet, but I know it is necessary for my future.”
She said store hours will be limited in the coming days as she transitions herself and the store to Baton Rouge.
