VIDALIA – Carolyn Jones Fortenberry of Vidalia, departed from her earthly home on March 10, 2025. Carol was born on May 9, 1958, in Natchez, to Tommie Lee Jones and Connie Foster Jones. She spent the last 14 years of her life in Vidalia. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at a later date.

Carol will be remembered for her warm smile and the gift of conversation with even strangers. She worked many years at Bookland in the Natchez Mall sharing her knowledge of books and that sweet smile with her customers. When Bookland closed, she worked as a manager with National Historic Park Services overseeing various sites. Her cheerful spirit was infectious. She spread joy to those with whom she came in contact.

Carol was predeceased by her parents, Tommie Lee and Connie Jones of Natchez, and brother-in-law, Johnny Bedford.

Those left to cherish Carol’s memories are her beloved husband of 14 years Herman W. Fortenberry of Vidalia; stepson, Cory Fortenberry (Lyndsay) and Justin Fortenberry (Elizabeth); granddaughter, Eliana; brother, Tommie Lee Jones, Jr. (Linda); sister, Barbara Sue Bedford; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family requests that no floral memorials be sent. Donations may be made in Carol’s honor to a charity or church.
