July 12, 1952 – March 12, 2025

ROXIE – Newman Victor Scott, lovingly known as “Papa Vic,” passed away on March 12, 2025, in Breckenridge, CO, at the age of 72. He was born on July 12, 1952, in Natchez, to Peggy Mizell and James William Scott. Vic lived a life marked by devotion to his family, faith, and community.

A graduate of Natchez Adams High School, Vic continued his education at Mississippi State University-Hail State! – where he laid the foundation for a diverse and fulfilling career. He began as a case manager at the Mississippi State Department of Human Services before transitioning into a life insurance agent and then beginning a new career as a production operator offshore.

Vic’s life was deeply enriched by his love for the outdoors. He found joy in deer hunting, squirrel hunting with his father, dove hunting with family and friends, and turkey hunting alongside Tommy and Jax.  Fishing trips with his grandsons-Jaxson Beach, Stratton Flynn, and Brandt Beach- were among his most cherished moments. When not in the woods or on the water, Papa Vic could be found cheering on his grandsons at their baseball, basketball, football, tennis, and Quiz Bowl competitions.

Beyond his personal passions, Vic dedicated himself to serving others. A man of deep faith, he was an active member of Roxie Baptist Church and served as a Youth Director at both Roxie Baptist church and Washington Baptist. His commitment extended to teaching Sunday School and working in children’s ministries. His service to the community was equally profound; for 32 years, he played a pivotal role on the Franklin County Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, shaping the future of healthcare in his region.  Additionally, he led the Roxie Indian Mound Hunting Club as its President for countless years.

Above all else, Vic treasured time spent with his beloved wife of 52 years, Kaye Scott. Together they created a lifetime of memories through travel and shared experiences. His family was always at the center of his world. He is survived by Kaye; daughters, Jennifer Beach (Joshua) and Amanda Flynn (Adam); grandsons, Jaxson Beach, Stratton Flynn, and Brandt Beach; sister, Laurie Patterson (Marc); nephews and niece, Jamie Thomas (Barbara), Scott Patterson (Elizabeth), Blaine Patterson (Kristin), and Amy Richardson (Hiram).

Vic was preceded in death by his parents, Peggy and Billy Scott; maternal grandparents, Johnny and Laurie Mizell; paternal grandparents, Newman and Mazie Scott; and great-nephew, Tullen Richardson.

Vic’s presence was unmistakable—his booming voice filled every room he entered. He was known for his generosity, and those who knew him never doubted where they stood with him or whether they could count on him in times of need. Even in passing, he continued to give to others as a tissue and organ donor.

Visitation will be held on March 19, 2025, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Roxie Baptist Church, 200 Carolina Street, Roxie, MS 39661. Funeral services will take place at the same location on March 20, 2025.  Visitation will begin at noon followed by the funeral services at 1 p.m.

Vic spent his final days surrounded by his family in one of his favorite places, the mountains. His legacy of love, service, and unwavering faith will inspire all who had the opportunity to know him.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Beach, Adam Flynn, Tommy Combs, Wayne Walters, James West, Kinney Carlton, Blaine Patterson and Scott Patterson.

Honoree Pallbearers are J.C. Smith, Bobby Byrnes, Lavonne Combs, Johnny Cummins, Jerry Combs, and Ralph Hale.
