Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office warns of new scam that took resident for $2,400

CONCORDIA PARISH, La. — Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office warned of a new type of scam that recently caused a resident to lose $2,400.

The scam happened via text message.

“A text message from ‘apple security alert’ will come to your phone and state that your account has been compromised,” CPSO states.

“You will be asked to download an app to safeguard your information called ‘rescue.’ If you download the app, they will send you a confirmation code. When you enter the code the scammers get complete access to everything in your phone including financial information.”

CPSO advised that law enforcement could not recoup the stolen funds or identify the person behind the scam.

“Please do not download the rescue app. For any reason,” they said.
